Is there anything more vexing than your favorite pair of sunglasses slipping down your nose on a hot, humid day? We understand the struggle because we are headquartered in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Sweat is one of those things that may ruin the experience of wearing an otherwise wonderful pair of sunglasses, so in this piece, we’ll share some ideas and tricks for keeping your shades from falling down your face in the future!

What’s Causing My Glasses To Slip?

1. Sweat

Why do my frames always slip down my face?” you may wonder. “How come they can’t just stay put?” and we’re delighted you inquired! You’ve probably noticed your sunglasses or glasses slipping down your face while participating in sports, going for a run, sun bathing, or simply going about your daily activities.

Although sweat is a primary source of this, there are additional elements that can induce slippage. Perhaps it’s the fit of the frame, the tightness of the screws, the weight of the lenses, or a combination of factors. Whatever the reason, you must realize that not having your glasses stay in place may be quite frustrating.

2. Screws that are loose

Another cause of slipping glasses could be the hinge screws on your sunglasses. The screws loosen up with time as we repeatedly put our glasses on and take them off. This is quite normal; however, it does result in a wider and much more loose fit. A little screwdriver can be used to discover the screw at the hinge of the frames, tighten it, and they’ll be as good as new!

Perhaps it’s a fit-related slippage issue, with your glasses’ bridge or arms bent out of shape. Simply place your spectacles on a flat surface, and if you find the lenses or arms aren’t level with each other, you’ve found your answer. If your metal frames are crooked, simply bend the arm down on the side that is too high. If your glasses are made of a less malleable material, such as plastic, aim a blow dryer at the hinge for 15–20 seconds to soften it. Bend it very carefully, and there you have it! You have properly fitted frames that will no longer slip!

3. Improperly fitting

GlassesIt’s also conceivable that your sunglasses don’t fit your face or nose properly. If you have a slim or even flatter nose, you should opt for sunglasses with adjustable nose pads rather than frames without. This allows you to customize your nose pads to fit your nose perfectly. If you don’t like nose pads, you’ll need sunglasses that fit your nose properly, or else they’ll slip. You’d be shocked at how much your glasses’ fit can influence their slippage.

4. Inappropriate for your lifestyle

One final thing to consider is that your frame style may not be appropriate for your lifestyle. Slipping can also be caused by wearing fashionable glasses while performing anything energetic. You could choose to get glasses with rubber nose cushions or that are designed for sports.

How To Stop Them From Slipping

1. Waxing

If you don’t have any of the major causes of your glasses slipping, you can try waxing the nose pads. Waxing provides friction between your glasses and your skin, preventing them from slipping. Alternatively, silicone ear hooks that grab the back of your ears and give an extra layer of anti-slipping support are available.

2. Cleaning

Sweat, sunscreen, and lotion accumulate over time and tend to make the frames and nose pads of your sunglasses greasy, so make sure you clean them on a regular basis to help prevent them from falling. You only need a moist rag and some mild soap! If you want to learn more about cleaning your sunglasses, go here to read our blog post on how to care for and clean your shades!

3. New Shades!

It’s also possible that your glasses are slipping because they’re too heavy. Fortunately, we at Seek Optics are ready to assist you! Most frames and lenses are composed of heavy materials such as metal and glass, which adds weight to your sunglasses. On the other hand, our frames and lenses are lightweight and flexible materials at SeekOptics! If you’d like to learn more about what we do for you at Seek Optics, click here to read our blog post!
