Singer and songwriter Rod Stewart performed Neil Diamond’s hit ‘Sweet Caroline’ at the Platinum Jubilee Concert, but fans were more than disappointed with the singer’s voice.
“The BBC asked Rod to sing” Sweet Caroline moments before the performance. They said, ‘It’s the Queen’s favorite; you must sing it.’ So he didn’t have much choice,’ “said the singer’s wife on the talk show ‘Loose Women.’
What Did The Fans Say?
Nearly 22,000 people gathered at the grounds of Buckingham Palace to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. Many talented artists gave performances for the royal family, including Sir Rod Stewart, but fans did not seem impressed.
There was a lot of backlash against Rod for singing the football anthem, Sweet Caroline. An attendee tweeted that they enjoyed the Palace Party until Rod Stewart sang Sweet Caroline.
Another fan took to Twitter to say-“Catching up with the party at the palace, now Neil Diamond is my all-time fav, and I do like Rod Stewart, but I’m sorry, NO NO NO.”
Reason Behind Sir Rod’s Bad Performance
On the talk show ‘Loose Women,’ Rod’s wife, Penny Lancaster, revealed that the singer lost his voice days before the Jubilee Party.
She said, “He was so nervous leading up to it.” Sir Rod spent three weeks in Las Vegas and caught COVID right after the last concert. “He came home, and it was past the ten days of being contagious, but he’d lost his voice.”
Before ending his performance with the Neil Diamond hit, Sir Rod said: “This is a funny one for me to sing,” and urged the crowd to “join in and make it comfortable.”
Despite the vocal problems, he took up the performance at the event and got Prince William and Prince George to sing along to the ending song, Sweet Caroline.
